The GMC Hummer EV is already setting benchmarks in the electric supertruck market. Along with its 1,000-horsepower (746-kilowatt) electric powertrain, it can also generate an estimated torque of 11,500 pound-feet (15,592 Newton-meters), dangerously approaching the territory of semi-trucks. It recently added another achievement to its resume, with the first unit sold at the Barret Jackson Auction House for $2.5 million.<\/p>\n
Given that the electric truck genre is shaping up as a major battleground, it would be remiss not to mention that the latest Hummer was developed without overlooking its rivals. Hummer’s electric vehicle performance engineer, Todd Hubbard, aims to set the standard with the battery-powered truck; an intention already quite clear with many of the ingenious features the vehicle offers.<\/p>\n
Ditching the internal combustion engine allowed the engineering team to have some fun with installations like crabwalk and aggressive four-wheel steering. All these ideas are very impressive, but don’t be alarmed, as the truck still comes with basic off-road features, including 18 cameras underneath the body, 35-inch tires, underbody armor, and adaptive air suspension.<\/p>\n
While the first vehicle was already sold at auction with a super-pricey tag, the remaining models of the Edition 1 sold out in an hour at a slightly more modest starting price of $112,595. The next model, the 3X, is scheduled to enter production in the fall of 2022 with a starting price of $99,995.<\/p>\n
