Land Rover has built a new special edition version of the Defender, paying homage to the iconic Camel Trophy expedition vehicles of the company.<\/p>\n
It’s called the Defender Trophy Edition and features a series of styling tweaks inspired by the classic off-road challenge cars that competed between 1980 and 2000.<\/p>\n
The cars are finished with a yellow base coat, similar to the original Camel Trophy cars. However, the original competition cars featured a Camel logo on all the runner’s doors.<\/p>\n
Land Rover couldn’t use the cigarette company’s brand for legal reasons, so to solve the issue, the British brand has designed a new clever logo for this special edition Defender, which (if you squint) bears a resemblance to the Camel logo found on the rear runners.<\/p>\n
Other off-road additions include an expedition roof rack, a front protection plate, mud flaps, rubber mats, an integrated air compressor, and a deployable ladder allowing access to the car’s roof. Buyers can also specify a winch as an optional extra.<\/p>\n
The Defender Trophy Edition is based on Land Rover’s X-Dynamic SE specification and is powered by the brand’s 3.0-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid inline-six P400 gasoline engine, producing 395 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n
Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox; Land Rover claims a 0-62 mph time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 129 mph.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition will only be sold in North America in a limited production run of 220 units. Prices start from $90,000.<\/p>\n
As part of the purchase, Land Rover will host an exclusive off-road adventure for 90 Defender Trophy buyers, with spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n
The event will take place at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, and will give buyers the opportunity to push their new cars to the limits, guided by expert off-road drivers.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
