California-based Alpha Motor Corporation has unveiled a new compact electric truck with a very aggressive off-road configuration and a distinctive retro look reminiscent of similar models from the 1980s.
The Alpha Wolf + features a larger cabin than the standard version presented last month, as well as increased performance and towing capacity.
While the standard Wolf has a two-door cabin with seating for two, the Wolf + has an extended cab with half rear-hinged doors and seating for four. It will be available with either single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive, according to the Alpha website.
Alpha lists 0-60 mph at 5.9 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than the standard Wolf) and a towing capacity of 6,724 pounds, compared to the standard Wolf’s 3,000 pounds. However, range estimates remain unchanged at 250-275 miles.
Images on the Alpha website also show the Wolf + adorned with accessories, including a roof bar, bed extender, and a foldable tent.
In addition to the Wolf and Wolf +, Alpha has showcased the Ace coupe and a more SUV-like version of that model called Jax. The company is currently accepting reservations but does not expect to begin deliveries until 2023.
The price of the Wolf + starts at $40,000 to $48,000, above the price range of the standard Wolf.
Several companies are looking to launch electric trucks, but only Canoo has shown something similar in size to the Wolf. Other contenders, such as the Tesla Cybertruck, GMC Hummer EV, and Rivian R1T, are somewhat larger. However, it’s worth noting that Alpha has not shown any functional prototypes with detailed manufacturing plans, so a healthy dose of skepticism might be in order.
