Bugatti Baby II, the scale toy that costs more than a BMW

On this occasion, we are talking about the Bugatti Baby II, a modern version of the 1920s children’s car. The Baby II is affordable (by Bugatti standards), but still quite expensive. A little over $40,000, to be exact. This means it’s a toy for wealthy kids (literally) and their tiny parents (due to the size of this vehicle).

All Baby II cars are fully customizable according to the whims of the new owner, but even the basic specifications reveal how interesting the “car” is. The Little Car Company manufactures them in partnership with Bugatti. At first glance, they resemble the original Bugatti Baby built in 1926. The Baby II was developed to celebrate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary.

The Bugatti Baby II comes in three versions: Base, Vitesse, and Pur Sang. Vitesse versions have a carbon fiber body, an upgraded drivetrain with a 2.8kWh battery pack and a speed key, just like the Bugatti Chiron. The available Touring package includes a high-power LED headlight upgrade, a brake light package, a fender and mudguard package, along with upgraded wiring harnesses and looms. The Pur Sang offers the same drivetrain as the Vitesse, but the body is hand-formed aluminum and its creation requires over 200 hours of specialized labor.

Other exterior options include a custom license plate and custom reflective chrome logos on the mirror, steering wheel, and wheel nut covers. Inside, you’ll find premium leather seats with pearlescent metallic finishes along with granulated grain details.

Each car is completed with an individual chassis number. For example, a collector in Belgium got chassis number 388 to match his original Bugatti Baby in his collection. Baby II customers also receive a branded presentation box that includes the owner’s manual, keys, and an exclusive book detailing the handmade Bugatti Baby II’s history. There’s even an optional Jetex carrying case.

In case you’re wondering, rear-wheel drive, a fully electric powertrain, and high-performance hydraulic brakes are more or less ready for the job. The Base model comes with two modes: Beginner, limited to 20 km/h (12 mph) and 1 kW (1.3 bhp) of power, and Expert, limited to 45 kph (30 mph) and 4kW (5.4 bhp) of power. Vitesse and Pur Sang models include Novice and Expert driving modes and offer their “improved” drivetrains when unlocked with the Speed key.

Step back because when you turn that key, you’ll get up to 10 kW (13.4 bhp) of power! With a total weight of only 230 kg (507 pounds), achieving a top speed of 70 km/h (42 mph) in the Bugatti Baby II is no problem. And you must love this Bugatti description: “Depending on the driver’s weight, it dispatches from 0 to 60 km/h in just six seconds.”

Which is a polite way of saying, if you’re a kid, you can reach 60 km/h in six seconds with the Bugatti Baby II. However, if you’re a wealthy, hefty idiot who looks like the cover of that Warrant album, it will take you a little longer.
