Carlos Sainz climbed from 15th to 5th place in the Turkish Grand Prix, where he managed to make McLaren work in very challenging conditions. The Madrid native said, “In this case, I’ve done what I want to do.”

For Carlos Sainz, the start of the weekend in Turkey was not easy; he didn’t make it into the top ten in the practices and finished 13th. Additionally, he was penalized for impeding Sergio Pérez, forcing him to start in 15th place. Collecting some points seems enough to achieve today’s goal, but Carlos is back and has achieved more than expected.

For Sainz, this fifth place “tastes very good,” and he confessed that “as a team, we have successfully passed the day.” Since he and his teammate Lando Norris (eighth place) scored points on the day Ferrari and motorsport, not getting points would be fatal to McLaren’s desire to secure third place in the World Championship.

After Turkey, Sainz faces his last three races behind the wheel of a McLaren. Only the two races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi will remain after this Grand Prix. Afterward, Carlos will start thinking about the Ferrari he will drive in 2021. But if he manages to place McLaren in third place in the World Championship before that, there won’t be a better introduction on his journey to Maranello.
