Some vehicles are not suitable for showing off. No one wants to be seen with, for example, Hitler’s car. Although “attractions of the dictatorship” are best suited for museums, allowing the public to visit them while maintaining educational purposes, there are still some that can be owned without feeling internal sins. This may be one of those examples: the Xenatec Maybach 57S Coupe that Muammar Gaddafi ordered to be made for himself.

Colonel Gaddafi requested this unusual Maybach in 2010 but never received it as he was assassinated in 2011. Therefore, even if it was his on paper, he never used it, which should make it more appealing to collectors.

Long before Maybach became the most luxurious trim of the Mercedes-Benz parent company, it planned to produce 100 two-door variants of this 57S sedan under license from the German company Xenatec. However, due to the extremely high manufacturing cost, only eight were produced. This is the fourth one, and according to the Dutch dealer Autoleitner’s listing, it is the example with the lowest mileage. Therefore, not only is it a very rare car, but it is also in perfect condition.

The enormous hood conceals a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine with 612 horsepower, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. We do not know the specific technical data for this model, but the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 275 km/h, electronically limited. These are impressive figures for this “ship” of over 5.5 meters and a weight of over 2.5 tons.

Xenatec asked for €675,000 for it in 2011, a price well above the Maybach 57S sedan on which it is based (€528,000). But there is a solid profit for whoever owns it now because Auto Leitner does not want this specimen to go to a new home for less than €961,950.
