Nearly all variants of the 2023 Porsche Taycan receive an estimated range increase from the EPA, the automaker confirmed this week.

Porsche announced a software update in July that it said would bring increased efficiency and range, and now the automaker is providing specific figures.

The Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo is the vehicle that sees the largest increase. Porsche estimates a range of 233 miles for the 2023 model, an improvement of 14.2% over the 204-mile range of the 2022 model.

The next-largest gains were for the Taycan Turbo sedan, which is now estimated at 238 miles (up from the previous 212 miles), and the Turbo S sedan, which Porsche now says reaches 222 miles, up from the previous 201 miles.

Range increases are not limited to high-end models. Porsche now lists a range of 208 miles for the base Taycan sedan, compared to 200 miles for the 2022 version. The only Taycan variants that do not see a range increase are the GTS sedan and GTS Sport Turismo wagon introduced for the 2022 model year.

The improvements are likely partly due to the aforementioned software update. Changes include a new drivetrain strategy that deactivates the front motor in all-wheel-drive models when driving under partial load in Range and Normal modes, decouples both motors when stopped or coasting. The Taycan now also keeps the automated regenerative braking strategy active when the drive mode changes.

Porsche was already fine-tuning the Taycan before that. It had introduced thermal improvements for 2022 that likely enhanced efficiency, although it did not requalify the models until now.

The Taycan is particularly strong for real-world highway-speed range, allowing for a cross-country trip at a brisk pace with just 2.5 hours of charging.
