In recent years, we have been witnessing how electrification is gradually reaching almost every model in the market, in one way or another. Commercial vehicles have not been left out of the equation, as they also have “zero-emission” versions. Now it is confirmed that the next generation of Ford Transit will have an electric variant.

It is worth noting that the current Ford Transit already has plug-in hybrid systems; however, its successors for passenger transport (Transit Custom and Tourneo) will have 100% electric versions and will be manufactured at the Kocaeli plant in Turkey.

The Kocaeli factory has been operating at full capacity for the past two decades and has been the location for the Transit series for many years. Now, it will receive an investment of over 2 billion euros to increase the production capacity of cars and batteries.

By February 2024, the electric Ford Transit will be the first step towards a fully electric or plug-in hybrid version for all commercial vehicles. However, the brand will retain other more traditional options because every user has different needs. The commitment to these vehicles is because they are the key to profitability in Europe, which has been a leader in commercial sales for the sixth consecutive year.
