Hyundai’s latest electric offering, the 2023 Ioniq 6, has secured an impressive EPA rating, reaffirming its position as a formidable contender in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE RWD Long Range, equipped with the larger 77.4 kWh battery pack (the base offering is a 53.0 kWh pack), boasts a remarkable range of up to 361 miles and a combined 140 MPGe. It’s worth noting that the SE model, fitted with 18-inch wheels, achieves these stellar numbers, while other Ioniq 6 trim levels come standard with 20-inch wheels.

For those opting for all-wheel drive, the range slightly adjusts to 316 miles, with an efficiency rating of 121 MPGe. The SE, SEL, and Limited models exhibit variations in range and efficiency due to wheel sizes and drivetrain configurations.

The Ioniq 6 SEL and Limited, featuring the larger wheels, achieve a range of 305 miles with 117 MPGe (rear-wheel drive) and 270 miles with 103 MPGe (all-wheel drive).

These range and efficiency figures align closely with previous expectations based on European WLTP results, and notably, the Ioniq 6 surpasses the Tesla Model 3 Long Range in maximum efficiency. As of now, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range is rated at 132 MPGe, showcasing Hyundai’s prowess in optimizing energy consumption.

The Ioniq 6 achieves its impressive efficiency, in part, thanks to its low drag coefficient of 0.22. For models in the Korean market equipped with slimmer camera side mirrors (not currently permitted by U.S. regulations), the coefficient drops even further to 0.21.

With a combined efficiency rating of 140 MPGe, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 stands on par with the Lucid Air, showcasing Hyundai’s commitment to delivering top-tier efficiency in the rapidly evolving landscape of electric vehicles. The Ioniq 6’s sleek design and advanced technology contribute to its stellar performance, building on the success of its predecessor, the Ioniq 5, and setting new benchmarks for EVs in its class.
