The Sportage has secured a five-star safety rating from ANCAP with a score of 87% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant protection, 66% for vulnerable road user protection, and 74% for safety assist.
The five-star rating applies to the entire range currently sold, encompassing all engines and trim levels.
ANCAP noted that the cars tested in Europe lacked the standard “junction assist” AEB function found in some U.S. models. European cars also have a shorter wheelbase than local models.
The junction assist system applies the brakes if the driver is exiting a junction and detects that an oncoming car could lead to a collision, which might have slightly boosted the Sportage’s safety assist score.
All Kia Sportage models come standard with the following safety features:
- AEB with pedestrian/cyclist/junction assist
- Blind-spot assist
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Lane-keeping assist
- Lane-following assist
- Intelligent speed limit assist
- Adaptive cruise control (except manual models)
- Reverse camera
- Rear parking sensors
- Front central airbag
The Sportage GT-Line adds:
- 360-degree camera with 3D view
- Blind-spot view monitor
- Reverse parking collision-avoidance assist
The Hyundai Tucson has also achieved a five-star ANCAP rating. The Tucson received an 86% adult occupant protection rating, an 87% child occupant protection rating, a 66% vulnerable road user protection rating, and a 70% safety assist rating.
