Lucid Motors has given an exciting preview of its next major release: a mid-size electric SUV. The announcement was made during the company’s Technology and Manufacturing Day event, where Lucid also shared a teaser image via its Twitter account (now known as X). This new addition to Lucid’s electric vehicle lineup is scheduled to begin production in late 2026 and promises to be an affordable model, with an expected price below $50,000.

This upcoming crossover SUV will showcase cutting-edge technology and efficiency, according to the company. Although the vehicle’s official name has yet to be revealed, Lucid has indicated that it will offer competitive performance, with a range similar to other models on the market but using a smaller battery. This reflects the brand’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability, which have become hallmarks of its presence in the electric vehicle industry.

Interestingly, Lucid filed a trademark application for the name “Earth” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in January, leading to speculation that the new SUV might carry this name. If confirmed, “Earth” would perfectly align with Lucid’s strategy of offering environmentally friendly vehicles that are highly efficient in resource use.

Lucid’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, mentioned in August that competitors still have a long way to go before matching the level of efficiency his company has achieved. This focus on efficiency will be key to the success of the new mid-size SUV, which will likely be an attractive option for those seeking an affordable electric vehicle without sacrificing performance or range.

The teaser image of the new SUV shows a sleek design, with a curved roofline reminiscent of Lucid’s larger SUV, the Gravity. However, this new model will be more compact, similar in size to the Tesla Model Y. The vehicle’s front end shares design elements with other Lucid models, such as horizontal headlights and a chrome strip running the full width of the vehicle, featuring the iconic “LUCID” lettering. Unlike the Gravity, the hood of the mid-size SUV features indentations on both sides, similar to the Air sedan. Other notable features include curved fenders, side mirrors mounted on the fenders, and no visible door handles, suggesting a minimalist and aerodynamic design.

The new mid-size SUV is just one of three affordable electric vehicles that Lucid is developing. Derek Jenkins, Lucid’s head of design, has stated that these vehicles will focus on efficiency and aerodynamics. Future models are expected to be more compact and lighter than the Air, suggesting that Lucid is planning a range that could include a sedan, a crossover SUV, and possibly an affordable sports hatchback.

In addition, pre-production units of the Gravity SUV are already rolling off Lucid’s assembly line, with the first deliveries of this model expected by the end of the year. While Lucid has yet to announce when the official unveiling of its mid-size vehicles will take place, this event will likely mark a new milestone in the company’s expansion into the affordable electric vehicle market.
