McLaren Racing has confirmed its entry into Extreme E next year, competing against teams such as Cupra, Andretti Autosport, and the Lotus and JBXE Racing partnership.
The British team has previously invested in electrified motorsports, supplying battery packs and transmissions for FIA Formula E racers since the discipline was established in 2014, utilizing a modified version of the electric technology found in the McLaren P1 hypercar.
Except for race colors, all cars in Extreme E are identical. They are manufactured around a standardized parts package, weighing 1,650 kg each and boasting 536 horsepower, sufficient for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds.
The Extreme E racing series is designed to raise awareness about climate change, visiting some of the world’s most affected habitats. McLaren’s entry into the series is also part of the company’s sustainability mission.
All Extreme E cars are transported worldwide by ship. Additionally, the cars are charged using hydrogen generators, and the water produced in the process is recycled by the teams on-site.
