Following the complaint from transporters about “phantom” or unjust fines imposed by Digesett agents, the president of the National Union of Unified Transporters (CNTU), William Pérez Figuereo, revealed that more than 1,400 cars and about 20,000 motorcycles have been abandoned by their owners due to the high amount of fines recorded.

According to his statements, “There are vehicles that have stayed there permanently because the money they have to pay is worth more than the vehicle; people simply leave them abandoned and that’s it. There are drivers who appear with 180 and 260 fines, and this is something worrisome.”

As a member of the transportation sector, Pérez Figuereo constantly receives complaints from taxi drivers because agents arbitrarily take away their vehicles. This situation, he states, has improved considerably compared to previous years; however, agents must be more consistent with people and not take away their vehicles without any reason. According to them, the infamous phantom fines continue to appear abusively.

William Pérez Figuereo claims that in the country, phantom fines continue to appear, even towards people who have never driven or obtained a license.
