Lamborghini has bid farewell to the Aventador, but the brand ensured that its flagship V12 supercar exits with a bang: the Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae boasting 769 horsepower.
Production will be limited to just 600 units, divided into 350 coupés and 250 roadsters, with a starting price around $342,000.
It is powered by a tuned version of the supercar’s 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing 769 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque. In other words, that’s 39bhp and 30Nm more than the Aventador S.
The engine is still paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system, but the additional grunt has shaved a tenth of a second off the Aventador’s 0-62 mph time to 2.8 seconds. The top speed has also increased from 217 mph to 220 mph.
The Ultimae features staggered 20/21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive dampers, and the same four-wheel-steering system as the Aventador S. The chassis control system is also similar, giving buyers the choice of Strada, Sport, and Corsa driving modes, as well as a customizable “Ego” setting.
To complement the added power, Lamborghini has given the Aventador Ultimae some styling tweaks, the main one being the new front bumper with its dedicated splitter and intake design.
The brand claims it has aerodynamic performance similar to the unit fitted to the Aventador SVJ, while the larger intake directs air under the car to help cool the engine. Additional ripples in front of the front wheel arches also smooth the air around the wheel arches. Lamborghini has also retained the active rear wing from the Aventador S, which has three positions depending on the selected driving mode.
There are 18 standard colors to choose from, although Lamborghini says its Ad Personam customization service offers a choice of over 300 paint finishes. The Ultimae Roadster also comes with a visible carbon-fiber roof.
As illustrated in Lamborghini’s images, the paddles on the Aventador Ultimae’s front bumper can also be selected in a contrasting color. The theme is repeated across the rest of the car, with similar highlights for the fins in the rear diffuser.
Inside, you’ll find the same sports seats as in the Aventador S, although the “Ultimae” badge has been embroidered on the headrest. The dashboard has a unique plaque marking each car’s place in the limited-edition production run.
Lamborghini’s Electrification Strategy
Believe it or not, the V12-powered Aventador Ultimae plays a key role in Lamborghini’s roadmap towards electrification, the first phase of which the company calls the “Celebration of the Combustion Engine.”
This and another V12 model will pay homage to the company’s longest-serving powertrain before the brand begins transitioning to a fully hybrid lineup from 2023.
Lamborghini is expected to unveil its second V12 supercar later this year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Details are yet to be confirmed, but rumors suggest it will also be a kind of limited-run special edition model.
Starting in 2024, Lamborghini will have an electrified powertrain in all its vehicles, and by the end of the decade, we can expect to see the company’s first pure electric vehicle.
