The cars we see on the streets are only a small fraction of the vehicles designed by automotive brands. Many projects never go beyond the initial sketches and prototypes, remaining unseen by the public. This is exemplified by the 15 concepts featured in Porsche Unseen, a book available at the brand’s museum, where an exhibition showcasing some of these concepts is set to take place in 2021.

The design process at Porsche involves several stages: initial sketches, 3D models, 1:3 scale models, and 1:1 scale models. Porsche’s Head of Design, Michael Mauer, explained, “The virtual world is the first step, but especially for these unusual models, you have to experience them firsthand.”

Porsche 919 Street

Porsche 919 Street (2017)

Developed as an experiment to apply the technology of the successful LMP1 Porsche 919 Hybrid to a street model, sharing many elements such as size, wheelbase, and a 900 hp powertrain.

Porsche Vision Renndienst

Porsche Vision Renndienst (2018)

A unique vision for a market segment Porsche has never explored—a family car with space for up to six people. The driver is in the central position, and the cabin is very spacious, with a fully electric powertrain.

Porsche Vision Spyder

Porsche Vision Spyder (2019)

Inspired by the 1954 Porsche 550-1500 RS Spyder, this concept aimed to work with different design aspects to develop Porsche’s visual identity, diverging from the usual brand design with details such as the vertical lighting assembly.

Porsche Vision 920

Porsche Vision 920

Designed after Porsche withdrew from the World Endurance Championship, this concept focused on Formula E as a hypothetical replacement for the 919 Hybrid. Considered a street-legal sports car, it could potentially lead to a competition version.
