After reaching 532 km/h, the SSC Tuatara has become the fastest car on the planet, breaking the record of 490 kilometers per hour previously held by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.
The record was achieved on public roads outside Las Vegas and was piloted by the American driver Oliver Webb. To validate this record, two launches were made in opposite directions at maximum speed: the first time reaching a speed of 484 km/h, and the second time registering a speed of 532 km/h. The average between these two values is used as the benchmark, eliminating the effects of wind or slopes.
According to SSC North America officials, achieving an even higher speed is possible.
This is not the only record set by American supercars. The SSC Tuatara also achieved the fastest speed on public roads (503.92 km/h), the fastest speed on a highway (517.16 km/h), and the maximum speed attained on a road.
The SSC Tuatara accomplished this feat with its 6-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, capable of delivering 1,775 hp when supplied with E85 bioethanol fuel, and its impressive aerodynamic performance, boasting a Cx of only 0.279, one of the lowest figures in the industry.
