A new bill introduced by U.S. Senators is set to allocate a staggering $500 billion towards the electrification of public transportation nationwide, with a focus on zero-emission buses and new charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs).

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey, along with Representatives Andy Levin and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, introduced the Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development and Generation of Renewable Energy for Electrification of Nation’s Infrastructure and Jobs Act. It is described as “the first step in driving the electrification of transportation” in the U.S.

Introduced in March 2021, the $500 billion in grants from the bill would be distributed over ten years, with the goal of electrifying everything from urban and school buses to fleet vehicles and light rail services. The emphasis is on creating a comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure for electric transportation across the country.
