Volvo Cars is expanding the electric range of its plug-in hybrid SUVs with new versions of the XC60 and XC90 for the U.S. market. The updated models can now deliver up to 78 miles of electric range in the XC60 and 73 miles in the XC90, which Volvo says are among the longest electric ranges available from plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United States.
The increased range is made possible by a larger-capacity battery integrated into the vehicle floor, combined with a more powerful electric motor. According to Volvo, the upgrades allow both SUVs to travel more than twice as far in electric mode compared with their previous plug-in hybrid versions.

Another notable addition is the integration of Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence assistant that allows drivers to interact with the vehicle using natural language. The system can help manage messages, plan routes and find locations while traveling.
