Rivian has expanded its recall of R1S and R1T electric vehicles over potentially defective front turn signals, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to 31,711. The expanded campaign now covers certain 2025 and 2026 model-year vehicles.
The recall originally covered 27,882 2025 Rivian R1S SUVs and R1T pickups. Rivian has now added another 3,829 vehicles after determining that additional units could have been built with turn-signal components that did not meet the company’s specifications.
Defective Turn Signals Prompt the Recall
The problem involves the front turn signals, which may fail to illuminate or flash as intended. A malfunctioning signal can prevent other road users from being properly alerted when a driver intends to turn or change direction, creating a potential safety risk.
Rivian identified the issue through an investigation into faulty lighting components supplied by Myotek. The company determined that parts that did not meet its specifications may not have been properly quarantined by the supplier, allowing some defective components to enter vehicle production.
The original recall was limited to 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles. The expanded population now includes 2026 models, widening the scope of the campaign as Rivian accounts for vehicles that may have received the affected components.
R1S Makes Up Most of the Affected Vehicles
The R1S accounts for the majority of vehicles included in the recall, with roughly 26,000 SUVs affected. About 5,700 R1T electric pickups make up the remainder of the population.
Rivian says a vehicle may display a warning to the driver if a turn signal fails. However, the company is still requiring affected vehicles to be inspected so the potentially defective lighting components can be identified and replaced.
Rivian Will Replace the Front Turn Signals
The remedy will involve inspecting the front turn signals and replacing them where necessary. The repair will be performed through Rivian’s service network at no charge to affected owners.
Owners of vehicles covered by the recall are expected to contact Rivian and arrange an appointment at the nearest service center. The company estimates that the repair procedure should take less than an hour.
The recall concerns compliance with federal vehicle lighting requirements because the affected signals may not operate as required. Rivian’s remedy is therefore focused on replacing the affected components with parts that meet the applicable specifications.
Another Recall for Rivian’s Flagship SUV
The campaign adds to the recall history of the R1S as Rivian continues expanding production across its electric-vehicle lineup. The 2025 R1S has now been involved in 10 recalls, while the 2026 model has been subject to two, according to the information provided in the latest recall reporting.
Another recent campaign involved certain R1S and R1T vehicles with potentially improperly tightened second-row seat-belt retractor bolts. That issue affected vehicles from multiple model years and required inspection and tightening where necessary.
For Rivian, maintaining vehicle quality is particularly important as the company expands beyond its higher-priced R1S and R1T models. The automaker is also bringing the more affordable R2 to customers, increasing the importance of reliable production and effective supplier controls as vehicle volumes grow.
For owners, the immediate priority is to determine whether their vehicle is included in the recall and complete the repair. Rivian’s recall remedy is free, and owners should arrange service rather than continuing to rely on a warning message if a turn signal malfunction occurs.
